Dyson Place Sheffield
Dyson Place is a hidden gem in the heart of Sharrow Vale, Sheffield’s most desirable district. Turn into our open courtyard and you’ll find an array of independent shops, stylish boutiques and modern-living apartments.
Standing tall on one side of the courtyard is the historic Mission Hall (est: 1901), while opposite you’ll find one of the terrace houses that stood in Dyson Place prior to development, now home to Nam Song, a modern Vietnamese Caphé. But it wasn’t always like that.
Hundreds of years ago, Dyson Place was farm land, owned by one Eliza Dyson (or so the story goes) whom the road was named after – although it was called Dyson Lane first. We don’t know what happened to Ms Dyson but some say she was murdered by her husband and buried under the Courtyard bearing her name! We didn’t find and bones during the rebuild so that one might be fake news.
In 2017, we started the project of cleaning up Dyson Place. We dug down and discovered a few underground wells and culverts.
The large stone in the centre of the Courtyard that you see today is one of the old well stones we dug out of the ground.
